January, 2008

January 22

It has been a long time since I wrote in and I am sorry I didn't live up to all the updates I said I would get on the site. Surviving another Wrangler NFR was the first thing on my mind. The ten days in Vegas were great; we stayed at the Gold Coast and enjoyed every minute of it.

I have had some people tell me that the first few horses weren't very good but I would have to say that the stock was the best it has ever been. I feel like I rode very consistent and winning the average was my goal and it got accomplished. We had a lot of fun before each round in the locker room and even on the eliminator night the mood was still fun and at ease. Every bareback rider left Vegas with a good paycheck but most of all, each bareback rider showed their style and class. It seemed like each night was up in the air on who was going to win and each round everyone gave their all. Congrats to Bobby Mote for winning the world, he had a great season.

During the NFR, one of my sponsors, AT&T, took saddle bronc rider Cody DeMoss and I golfing at Stallion Mountain. The course was very nice and reasonably priced, but like every course in general the rough was tuff to get out of. I have golfed with Cody on multiple occasions and we always have a blast. The two of us had a camera on us most of the time while we were golfing and if you see the video on the AT&T video link I will tell you right now that the bad hits were from the pressure of the tape rolling because I usually golf better than that (yah right). One thing that I have never done and I really want to do there in Vegas is the indoor skydiving. Fellow bareback rider Jason Havens went a few years ago and had a blast. He recommended trying it, so hopefully one of these days I will get the chance. He did say that it made him a little sore from being tensed up while he was above the fan, so I better take that into consideration.

To backtrack a little, I wanted to let everyone know that the Fourth Annual Thanksgiving Rodeo School went really well. We were thrilled to raise $15,000 for the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund. This year we added bull riding to the list of events and so between bareback riding, saddle bronc riding and bull riding we had 58 students. The school featured 25 instructors, 22 of whom have been to the Wrangler NFR. We were thrilled to have Bob Tallman come over on Nov. 24 and cook dinner for about 150 people. Not only can Tallman announce, but he is a pretty dang good cook as well. We all had a blast and we are looking forward to a bigger and better event in 2008.

Congrats to one of my traveling partners, Wes Stevenson, who finished in a tie for third in Odessa, Texas, the first part of January after spurring one for 85 points. I am looking forward to getting things rolling in the New Year and the time is right with all the big winter rodeos. Oh and my New Year's resolution is to keep my blog updated, so here is hoping for great things in 2008.

Later,
