Well it has been quite a month for me since I last wrote. My dad passed away in January after a brief battle with cancer. I found out during the Finals that he had cancer but none of us knew just how bad it was. It is never easy to lose a parent but I am glad he didn't have to suffer long. I now have a very special guardian angel watching over me. Thanks to all my buddies for the support they showed me and my family during this difficult time.
It was then time for me to get back to my routine and that took me to the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo. Not enough can be said about the San Antonio rodeo. From the great facility to the best committee, everybody there tries their hardest, and succeeds, at producing the three time and current rodeo of the year. To top it all off they have the most delicious food in the hospitality room. Getting a paycheck there also helps with its stance on the totem-pole.
I finished tied for third in the first round with a score of 85 points and I picked up a check worth $2,659. I didn’t place in the second or third round but scored high enough to keep me in the average. In the final round, I finished tied with Dusty LaValley for fourth with a score of 85 points to win an additional $500. In the end I finished tied for seventh in the average with 325 points on four head and picked up another check totaling $1,596. I finished behind my traveling partners Royce (Ford) and Wes (Stevenson), so congrats to them.
Also congratulations to Royce and Jess Davis for making the two rankest rides of the rodeo. Jess had a horse in the final round of Flying 5 Rodeo’s called Miss Amerititle and they did fit well together. Jess won the round with a very impressive 92-point ride. Riverboat Annie of Pete Carr’s was her normal self and Royce did let ‘m’ roll to finish second to Jess with an 88 in the final round. The pen of horses in the short round was as good of a pen as you could want. Everything bucked and everybody had fun. My hat is off to the San Antonio Rodeo Committee and the stock contractors.
My next rodeo will take me to Tucson, Ariz., and I am always ready for some warm sunshine. Beutler and Son horses always buck in the big pen at Tucson, so that makes for a good rodeo. The horses must like the weather change too. I usually try to take my golf clubs to Arizona since there is a golf course at almost every turn. The weather is usually perfect for a round of golf and it is a great way to spend the day. One time we golfed at the place where they filmed Tin Cup, it is just south of Tucson about 40 miles. After Tucson, we head to San Angelo (Texas) and eventually to the sunshine state of Florida . As we get closer I will keep you informed.
Until next time,
Will
